Terms of sale

What you get when you pay for Aside, what it costs, and how to get your money back.

Who you are buying from

Aside is made by Renderei Martin GmbH, Steina 9 A, 94086 Bad Griesbach im Rottal, Germany. Full company details are in the Imprint.

Payments run through Stripe Managed Payments. Under that arrangement Stripe is the merchant of record, which means your purchase contract is with Stripe and not with us. Stripe takes the payment, handles sales tax, VAT and GST, issues the receipt, and handles disputes and chargebacks. Renderei Martin GmbH makes the software, licenses it to you under the terms below, and supports it. Stripe’s own terms apply to the payment itself and take precedence over this page where the two ever disagree.

Trying it first

Aside is free for your first ten meetings, with no card and no account. Nothing on this page costs anything until you choose to pay.

The licence

What the money actually buys.

Owning it, $79 once

You get a personal, non-exclusive licence to use Aside. It is yours, not your company’s seat: install it on every Mac you personally own and use, and use it for work as well as for private things. If you want Aside for a team, every person needs their own licence.

The licence has no end date, and it covers all updates to the app, bug fixes and new features alike. A future major successor would be a new purchase, and owners of this licence will be offered it at a discount. The version you bought keeps working either way.

You may not resell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Aside or your licence key, publish the key, or bypass the licence check. You may not decompile or reverse engineer the app except where German law says you may anyway.

Subscribing, $8 a month

The subscription includes the app and Aside cloud together. It renews monthly until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time. Cancelling stops the next renewal: you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for, and we do not pro-rate a partial month.

Stop paying the $8 and Aside stops recording new meetings, but everything you already recorded stays yours and readable, and the $79 purchase never stops.

In detail: once a subscription has ended, and after a grace period of 72 hours past the date it was paid up to, the app no longer starts new recordings and no longer reaches Aside cloud. Nothing that was already recorded is locked. Every note, transcript, recording and export stays exactly as reachable as it was, because they are files in a folder you own. Renewing, or buying the $79 licence, starts recording again. One exception, in your favour: free meetings from the ten-meeting trial are not spent while a subscription is active, so any that were still unused when you subscribed are still there when it ends, and recording continues until they are used up.

You can move from the subscription to the $79 licence. If you buy the licence within the first three months of your subscription, every payment you have made on it up to that point is credited in full against the $79, so you pay only the remainder. After those first three months there is no credit and the licence costs $79: the months you paid were cloud you used. The window runs from the day the subscription started, not from the last renewal.

Bringing your own API key

Using your own key from another provider, or a local model, costs you nothing here and creates no contract with us for that part. Whatever that provider charges you and whatever terms they set are between you and them.

Prices

Prices are in US dollars. Whether tax is added on top and at what rate depends on where you are, and Stripe works that out at checkout. We can change prices for future purchases and for future subscription periods, and we will tell subscribers before a change takes effect so they can cancel first. A price change never touches a licence you have already bought.

Refunds and cancellation

Your right of withdrawal

If you are a consumer in the EU, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content without giving a reason. Because your purchase contract is with Stripe as merchant of record, that right runs against Stripe, and Stripe’s terms describe how to exercise it.

Important: that right expires early for digital content that is delivered immediately. Aside is delivered as soon as you pay, so at checkout you are asked to expressly consent to that immediate delivery and to acknowledge that you lose your right of withdrawal once delivery has begun. If you would rather keep the 14 days, do not consent, and wait out the period before downloading or activating.

Our own line on it

Beyond anything the law requires: if Aside is not what you thought it was, email us within 14 days of buying and we will refund you. No form, no reason needed. Write to hey@heyaside.com. This is a voluntary promise from us and it does not limit your statutory rights.

Cancelling a subscription

Cancel from the billing portal linked in your receipt, or email us and we will do it. A cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. Renewal charges that have already been taken are not refunded on a goodwill basis, so cancel before the renewal date if you are done.

The fine print

Licence keys and misuse

Your licence key is yours alone. Sharing it, posting it, or selling it is a breach of these terms. If a key turns up in use on a scale that is clearly not one person’s Macs, or in public, we may deactivate that key. We will contact you first at the email address you bought with, unless the key has been published, and a key deactivated for genuine abuse is not refunded.

If you lose your key, email us and we will send it again.

What we promise about the software

Aside is provided as it is. We do not promise it is free of every bug, that it will run on every configuration, that transcription or any AI-written note will be accurate, or that it will never be unavailable. Aside supports macOS 26 and later, and support for a given macOS version can end when Apple ends support for it.

Statutory warranty rights for consumers under German law apply and are not excluded by anything here. If a defect makes Aside unusable and we cannot fix it in a reasonable time, you can ask for your money back.

Meeting recordings are your responsibility. Depending on where you and the other people in the call are, recording may require telling them or getting their consent. Aside does not do that for you.

Liability

We are liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, and for injury to life, body or health. For slight negligence we are liable only where we breach an obligation that is essential to the contract, and then only up to the damage that was foreseeable and typical for a contract like this. Liability under the German Product Liability Act is unaffected.

Aside writes to a folder you own and works alongside your own backups. Keeping backups is on you.

Changes to these terms

We can update this page. The version you agreed to at checkout is the one that governs your purchase. For subscriptions we will tell you before a change applies to a future period, and you can cancel if you do not want it.

Law and where things get settled

German law applies, without the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in. If you are a business, a legal entity under public law, or have no general place of jurisdiction in Germany, the place of jurisdiction is Passau.

We are not willing or obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
